Camera

The Camera work of Freak is very significant, has this helps to distinguish the charcters and to show the power, dominancy and equality within the Teen Online Drama

In the beginning of Freak we are shown The main character taking a picture of herself, the shot is taken from outside the house, we are not shown exactly what she is doing, all we see is the camera which symbolises a possible concern with a self image. We are then shown her brother enter the room, from a still shot. This shows a possible dramatic scene has he storms in the room from a calm atmosphere.

There is a lot of versimilitude in the Episode. During the middle of the episode we are shown Lucy entering the room with a low angle shot, as she is entering a room full of guys, and she is a girl this suggests a possible threat to the group and her feminity is a threat to the group.

Freak also displays some quite long duration shots which reflect the mood of the scene, We see the fiesty character Heather trying to flirt with someones boyfriend, the camera pans from character to character but we the tracking stays the same. This is showing a tension within the scene has this rivalry between the two characters and this is displayed through the stiffness of the camera.

At the end of the Drama there is more use of panning, we see Lucy walk out of the house, and almost run straight in front of the car, the camera doesnt change postion and this shows the pacy and the emotions that are running through the progamme, therefore creating versimilitude.

Freak, Editing

The editing throughout the Teen Drama is highly significant, as improves the flow of the drama and the way the scenes are connected, at the start of the drama the introduction of different sounds helps to hail the audience for example at the start we hear a trumpet being played, this unusual sound is cleverly slotted in at the beginning by the editor in order to hail the audience.

Another clever technique used by the Editor is the sound, the sound is played all through the first scene before title is even shown, so the audience doesn't know anything about the film, do is forced to watch more of the Drama to find out, a simple technique but is very effective

During the middle of the Drama, pictures of a party are shown with music, we are then shown the party afterwords, this effective for the audience as they been given a teaser of what is to come, then when they are shown what has actually happened it reveals certain secrets also the music can help to reflects the tone of the scene.

Fantasy Film Making Part 2

Synergy

The product placement I have chosen for my Synergy was Mc Donalds, I had also chosen this for My comercial has well, the reason for this is that Mc Donalds in one of the largest Franchise in the world, and is seen as a family icon in the resturant industry so it helps to attract wide audiences and also represents my production company, has it is a hollywood company. So they fit together quite well as a synergy. My second type of synergy is Apple Mac, which is another product placement, this company is also a popular franchise across the world, it also attracts the new age audience beacuse of it technology so it makes a good synergy for the fantasy film. Also I will be recieving a lot income from both of the franchise (Mc Donalds and Apple Mac) which is a big advantage for the fantasy film has it provides a financail attraction.

Crew

When it came to deciding My Crew, I knew I had to pick a reliable one. The reason for this was that Production company was hollywood flix and the represntation regarding hollywood company are ushually of a high quality, therefore I have to make sure my film meets the highest standard. Its also very important that I have a reliable crew has this increases crediblity for my film and also attracts my audience, for example I have a good director "Sam Rayman" who has alot of experience. My production team is also very experienced and is a expert in thier carrer. The Editor is a vital part of the film has he smoothens out the scenes and makes it seem more effective. My special effects is also a vital part of the film has this increases the visual aspect of the film and this therefore entices the audience.

New Media Technology

The new media technology is one the key aspects for my film has this gives the film the finishing touch and is also the foundation for the film. The key camera we chose to use was the Sony HDW-F900R which one of the most expensive cameras today. This increases the Reliabilty of the film and therfore improving the quality. However the more cameras we have the harder is to move them around, therefore hiring more people to carry the equipment. For the Tapes I had chosen Dv tapes, Dv tapes are very popular and also very reliable it is compatible with the Apple Macs therefore enabling the Editor will have the best job possible

An analysis of Freak. part 2.

Mise en Scene is a key aspect which helps to further the narrative and also helps establish representations with the Drama, the first instance is when Lucie is shown in her bedroom. The first reason why this is significant is that her clothes are taken of her. Because this the first scene of the drama, the audience doesn’t know what this symbolises however because she is stripped to just her Bra and Knickers it suggests that they of importance to her and could suggest a financial difficulty within the Drama this represents a possible working class society: in addition, the arrangement of her furniture is quite cramped, which also suggests a lack of financial diffulty within her household. Also the objects in the Drama are quite significant. We see two Kids break into a party using a metallic object of somesort. This suggest that they were up to mischief before the party began and portrays a negative representation within the drama, that they are Mischievous teenagers. Money is also a key part within the Drama has it seems to give a sense of control and status for example Lucie wants to go to her Step-Brothers party, and is bribed with money to stay from the party. This gives a sense of control and vulnerability within Lucie, this represents her as a character that can easily be manipulated.

Analysis on Teen Drama Freak!

There are many different classes represented within the Drama such as upper, middle and working.

In episode we see a party taken place around a pool and high quality building, this would demonstrate upper class within the community as these facilities would be expensive. Upper class is also portrayed within audio as well, one of the female characters........ speaks quite posh and has quite a rich london accent, this could percived of good upbrining in terms of education. Also in terms of material gain is quite vast. We are shown Lucie been taken into a designer shop called Rokit, for these to afford Designer clothing they, could be quite finacally stable suggesting that they are from upper class background.

Lower class is portayed quite highly in Freak, we see Lucie not being able wear clothes, this happens in to instances, one where clothes are taken off her, and theres even a time where she doesnt have enough cloths to go, this could be a cause of financial problems suggesting lower class. Also when there is party going on, the only music being played is from a Stereo, when that falls into a pool, they are left with no music entertain ment and resort to instruments, which suggests lower class.

Stereotypes are the main focus in the Progamme, but class has big part in that factor. Lucie is shown not own many cloths mainly because she cant afford them, so she takes her brothers clothes, making her look more boyish and tomboy and not the typical image of a female. Most of the charcters have different archtypes within the progamme. Lucie often struggles to express herself fully and unintentionly copies her rival. We se ... change her clothing in order for her to become different and unique , she wants to become more upperclass in this case due to the different acessories applied to her dress. Most of the representations within the progamme are negative as ... is seen to be quite bitchy and rude to her fellow friends (Musical, Lucie, sun tan) however this could be a cause of her ubringing. We see Lucie has a postive repsentation, as she is victimised within the group but is still seen emancipate her self. This shows graditidue and modesty, howver this could be cause of her class from not being able to afford things to make more like her friends.

Special effects and Graphics

Special effects and Graphics

The age of special effects has changed entirely across the century, from Cgi, to Model animation, we have seen various different graphics not just to meet the genre, but to attracts the eyes of all cultures.

So How did it all start off then?

During the middle 19th century a guy called Oscar invented a form of special effects called the "trick photograph" by combing photographs from different cultures in order to create some sort of illusion.

In the the Late 19th century, a director called Alfred Clark created what is now known as the first-ever stop-motion picture special effect. While filming a re-enactment of the beheading of Queen Mary, Clark instructed an actor to step up to the block in Mary's costume. As the executioner brought the axe above his head, Clarke stopped the camera, had all of the actors freeze, and had the person playing Mary step off the set. He placed a Mary dummy in the actor's place, restarted filming, and allowed the executioner to bring the axe down, slicing the dummy's head. This was the first ever piece of dramatic special affects that enhanced the narrative.

A year later "1896" This then became a Visual Phenomenon, as a French Magician discovered the same technique, and realised that it could be used to change the locations and character styles entirely for example ; a truck to turn into a hearse, pedestrians to change direction, and men turn into women.

In the early 19th century (1914) this technique called "Stop Trick", was in popular demand as a French director was inspired by these techniques, as he created over 500 films, his most famous one called Le Voyage dans la lune which included techniques such as live action, animation and miniature painting work.

Moving across the years, film exposure was invented to change the colours of the slides in order to contrast the image from black to white or vice versa.

During early 1920, the special effects were the improved by Norman Dawn who installed the Matte shot. The original matte shot had pieces of cardboard that were used block the exposure of the slides, which would be exposed later. Dawn mixed this technique with the "glass shot". Rather than using cardboard to block the film exposure, Dawn just painted it black to prevent any light from entering the film. From the a single frame is then projected onto an easel, where the matte is then drawn. By creating an image on to the film it made it easier to create an accurate shape and perspective.

Around the mid 1920's this technique was improved bu the film industry in order to make it more successful. Rear Projection was a technique used to alter the theme of backgrounds and the characters itself ;instituting moving pictures to create moving backgrounds. Life-casting of faces was imported from traditional mask-making. Fantastic masks could be created which fit the actor perfectly. horror film mask-making followed closely. For the first time, we being able to distinguish different genres by just analysing the special effects.

Later were finally seeing the stop motion being introduced through animation, creating the illusion of motion as this was accomplished through drawing and with three-dimensional miniatures.

If one film could be said to have established a new high-bench mark for special effects, it would be 1968's : A Space Odyssey, directed by Stanley Kubrick, who assembled his own effects team (Douglas Trumbull, Tom Howard, Con Pedersen and Wally Veevers) rather than use an in-house effects unit. In this film, the small objects were highly detailed and carefully framed for a sense of realism.

Star wars continued this phenomenon in 1977, with amazing special effects, it was the first film with a computer-controlled camera rig called the "Dykstraflex" that allowed precise fluid camera motion, improving travelling-matte compositing.

In 1993, The introduction of computer generated technology changed the movie industry for every, this new change sparked off the cross bewteen live action and animation, which proved award winning success, films like Toy Story, Lord of the rings and the Star wars prequel trilogy also the award winning matrix.

The film Happy Feet, had a major impact on the graphics and special effects of that time, the film appeared to be mainly cgi or animation, however certain dramatic scenes saw the introduction. Such as weather( background) or when the penguins are kept in captive by the humans. This enhanced the themes of the film and genre has well, also it bring a sense of verisimilitude.

Technological convergence has had a big impact on the way we view and also on the way we manipulate media, for example different sound affects have merged within visual effects to accurately adjust the theme and how the specific piece of media (usually a film) is represented. It also helps industrys to gain more credibility and also makes it easier for company to portray their ideology.

This therefore affects their audience, before companies could only target certain audiences, but now the new media technologies such as 3D or fluid tape can enhance realism and cancel out flashes and blurring. In affect It turns target audiences from Niche to mainstream.

Homework Key Question

Question 1.

During the early years of channel 4, thier main motive was to demonstarate innovation throught most of thier progams, also according to their remit, they had to be creative in the content of thier progams. This was highly similar to the aims of a independent film production company has they targeted niche audinces, also due to short financial costs, they often had to stimulate they audiences by the use of creative narratives.

Question 2

Before 1993, Channel 4 only targeted niche audinces, and attempted to potray social realism to the highest standard, however their attempt to target mainstream audiences, scraped thier morals beliefs and mainly thier ideology behind thier remit. This took away thier rawness and thier harsh realism they had demonstrated towards society, and eventually led to a economic loss towards thier broadcasting.

Question 3

Channel 4 have sparked of several innovations of Britsh televison, the most famous is reality television, in 1999, Channel 4 intoduced Big brother a psycologiacal test invlolving real people living in a house, this new inventive way of exploring society has lead on to the creation of other reality progams such has Shipwrecked (BBc 2), Young Dumb Living of mom (BBc 3), also becasue of Channel4's motive to express the British society in its fullest, this has started a number of soap operas, which have targeted mainstream audiences.

Question 4

Channel 4 has mainly kept to remit, however it is not has evident has portayed, for example the film Walter(1992), clearly explores themes of homosexuality, Crime, and values, because its a film it can only be manipulated by the audience in terms of perciving it, wheras progams such as Big Brother, still discuss those themes, but sertain aspects are glamorised or taken too lightly, therfore not capturing the essence of their remit.

Question 5

Channel 4 no longer capture the essence of thier educational value, it no longer seems to have same seriousness has 25 years ago, first of all the presenters are not educationaly specialized in the ares of the progam for example Peaches Geldof was prsenting a progame on Islam, when it was publicly known, that isnt her field of knowledge, however progams such has Channel 4 news is one the best news broadcasts in terms of Research and Equality.

Question 6

Channel 4 still captures a few aspects of its remit, it produces some intresting topic, such has Dispatches, the reason why progams like those tond match the remit in its apparent form is because it doesnt include controversial topic like 25 years ago, also due to the public becoming more sensitive and aware to social expression, it has now become harder to convey the realism of society without offending the audience.

Question 7

Film 4 heavily relies on the Channel 4 in terms of advertising the films, Film 4 attempted to market their own films without help of channel 4, unfortuantly this led to a financial loss. Therefore Film 4 is heavily dependent on channel 4, in terms intergration. I would say it would be a horzintal intergration, because both companies require each other in order to stick to the remit and for maximum marxeting, it may seem that Channel 4 is highly seperate to the way Film 4 operate, but in order for the remit to be fully functional, it has to be an horzinatal intergration
